Cacheat is an ingredient management app that transforms food saving into a easy and fun interactive experience with user-friendly functions including smart scanning, expiration date tracking, and recipe recommendations.

Research

Over 30% of all food produced globally is wasted, with households contributing around 40% of that waste.

Finding

A significant proportion of food waste is produced by the domestic household.

Hypothesis

If people who regularly cook could utilize ingredients more wisely, they can reduce food and money waste.

Onboarding

Onboarding welcomes new users and introduces Cacheat’s main goals and functions to help them use the app proficiently.

Scan to Add

With object detection, an entry page for the scanned item will be automatically generated, saving the hassle of manual entry.

Track Expiry Date

The expiry dates of ingredients are listed in order of urgency, and can be viewed more clearly in the calendar panel.

Cook What You Have

The recipes are generated base on what is expiring fast, so no worries of need to buy more stuffs.

Profile & Rewards

Users can see their progress with Cacheat including saved, wasted, and streak of not producing waste.


The reward system encourages more consistent use to achieve a sustainable food waste reduction.

Reflection

Working on Cacheat deepened my understanding of how design can impact habits and address both personal and global challenges. Developing features like smart scanning showed me the importance of prioritizing simplicity and usability. This project strengthened my commitment to combining creativity with practicality to craft meaningful solutions.
